About Me.

I love creating in all forms. When I'm working in theatre I often serve as technical director. If I'm not drafting the show I build sets, build props, work with lights and sound, and board op for shows. With enough time and knowledge I can make anything. With experiences in production, backstage, and onstage, I aspire to one day immerse myself and others in alternate universes I create to escape the terrors of everyday life. I'm inspired by animation, ballet, and various other immersive experiences like interactive puppetry, the renaissance festival, the Bridgerton Experience, and more. I reject the banality of everyday life, enjoying fantasy and fantastic features as their favorite projects to work on. The world is a difficult place to live in, and for perhaps just a moment, I want to give people a break and space to play again.

Education

2020-2024

BA - Theatre Arts Tech and Design

University of Minnesota

During my time at the University of Minnesota I developed foundations in theatrical carpentry while having various experiences in sound, lighting, and props. As a result of my undergraduate training, I can continue to find opportunities to refine my skills and expand my tool belt.

Artistic Statement

My work as a technical director is grounded in my belief that technical direction is the bridge between ideation and imagination and the tangible world we live in. Ultimately technical direction is a creative profession grounded in math and physics. My role as a technical director is to apply the sciences in the art. The confluence of art and science is where technical theatre is created, and I believe it is my role as the technical director to be the confluence that enables the directors, performers, and artistic team to see their vision realized in a sustainable and safe way.

Through my professional and academic experiences, I have developed a strong foundation in scenic construction, problem solving, and collaboration, and a love for the process of turning complex designs into buildable structures through the principles of theatrical construction and math. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to work with students and facilitate a youths early experience with theatre in which I always hope they take away more than just skills useful in theatre, but skills that will benefit them in their lives outside of school.

What excites me most about technical direction is its balance of precision and imagination. Each production presents a new set of variables like time, materials, personnel, and safety. Approaching these different variables require both analytical thinking and creative flexibility. I value environments where experimentation is encouraged, where failure is treated as part of the learning process, and where collaboration leads to innovative solutions. These values have shaped my approach to leadership in the shop, where I strive to foster clear communication, mutual respect, a shared sense of purpose, and a little bit of fun along the way.

I am seeking a masters degree in technical direction to build a stronger foundation in math and science, expand my design and engineering tool belt, and refine my leadership and organization. Graduate study will allow me to have the space and time with the more structural engineering aspect of the profession. A space that is not present in the professional world outside of education. I’m particularly interested in new and emerging technologies as they pertain to live performance, sustainably, and renewably and how interdisciplinary collaboration can inform the future of technical production.

My ultimate goal as a technical director is to participate in the development and creation of theatre that touches people and teaches youth how to approach large projects and bring them to completion. I aspire to work in environments that value innovation, mentorship, and artistic integrity, and to support productions that challenge audiences while remaining grounded in thoughtful, responsible technical practice. A Master’s program will be a crucial step in helping me grow into a more confident, informed, and impactful artist-technician.
